Ingredients

For the coating
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
Main ingredients
  • 2 large onions Peeled and sliced into thin rings
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup buttermilk For soaking the onions

Method

Preparation
  1. Peel the onions and slice them into thin rings, about ¼ inch thick.
  2. Place the onion rings in a bowl and cover them with buttermilk. Allow the onions to soak for at least 30 minutes.
Coating
  1. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper until well combined.
  2. After soaking, remove the onions from the buttermilk, allowing excess liquid to drip off. Dip each ring into the flour mixture, ensuring they are well coated. Shake off any extra flour.
Air Frying
  1. Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 5 minutes.
  2. Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Place a single layer of onion rings in the basket, taking care not to overlap them.
  3. Lightly spray the tops of the onion rings with cooking spray. Air fry for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
  4. Carefully remove the crispy onions from the air fryer and let them cool slightly on a wire rack.

Notes

To achieve best results, soak the onions for the full 30 minutes and avoid overlapping when air frying.
