Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 large onions Fresh onions are essential for sweetness.
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Can be substituted with gluten-free flour.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt Adjust seasoning to taste.
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup buttermilk Soak onions in buttermilk for best results.

Method

Preparation
  1. Peel the onions and slice them into thin rings, about ¼ inch thick.
  2. Place the sliced onions in a bowl and cover them with buttermilk. Let them soak for at least 30 minutes.
Coating
  1. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper until well mixed.
  2. Remove the onions from the buttermilk, allowing excess liquid to drip off. Dip each onion ring into the flour mixture, ensuring an even coating.
Cooking
  1. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 5 minutes.
  2. Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Place a single layer of onion rings in the basket without overlapping.
  3. Spray the tops of the onions with cooking spray.
  4. Air fry for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
Cooling
  1. Remove the crispy onions from the air fryer and let cool slightly on a wire rack.
