Method
Preparation
- Peel the onions and slice them into thin rings, about ¼ inch thick.
- Place the sliced onions in a bowl and cover them with buttermilk. Let them soak for at least 30 minutes.
Coating
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper until well mixed.
- Remove the onions from the buttermilk, allowing excess liquid to drip off. Dip each onion ring into the flour mixture, ensuring an even coating.
Cooking
- Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 5 minutes.
- Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Place a single layer of onion rings in the basket without overlapping.
- Spray the tops of the onions with cooking spray.
- Air fry for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
Cooling
- Remove the crispy onions from the air fryer and let cool slightly on a wire rack.
Notes
For the best texture, serve immediately. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
