Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 steaks tuna steaks (6-8 ounces each), about 1 inch thick High quality, fresh tuna is recommended.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • to taste salt
  • to taste freshly ground black pepper
Garlic Herb Butter
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh herbs (parsley, thyme, rosemary, or a combination) Fresh herbs enhance flavor and aroma.
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice For brightness and flavor.

Method

Preparation
  1. Pat the tuna steaks dry with paper towels, ensuring they're fully dried for a perfect sear.
  2. Season the tuna steaks generously with salt and freshly ground black pepper on both sides.
  3. In a small bowl, mix together the softened butter, minced garlic, chopped herbs, and lemon juice until well combined. Set aside.
Cooking
  1. Heat the olive oil in a heavy-bottomed skillet over high heat until shimmering.
  2. Carefully place the seasoned tuna steaks in the hot skillet. Sear for approximately 2-3 minutes on each side, looking for a nice golden-brown crust. Adjust cooking time for desired doneness.
  3. Once done, remove the tuna steaks from the skillet. Top each steak with about a tablespoon of the garlic herb butter, allowing it to melt over the warm fish.
Serving
  1. Let the butter melt slightly before serving to create a glossy finish. Enjoy your gourmet meal!

Notes

Make sure your skillet is hot enough before adding the tuna to avoid sticking. Use a fish spatula to gently flip the steaks without breaking them apart. Keep an eye on the tuna, as it cooks quickly; overcooking can lead to a dry texture. Double the garlic herb butter for extra use.
